about

I didn't have to dig too deep to write this chronicle. It's a personal story, hung with a touch of hyperbole, seasoned with a liberal dash of figurative language, and some liberties taken with time, place, and point of view. As an old friend said, who happens to be familiar with my previous work, “You've always got one rock 'n' roll song on an album, it's tradition”. And of course, I didn't want to let her down.

Verse
Hey, momma said son you'd better beware
Or you'll end up livin' on a wing and a prayer
Put down that guitar and mind the store
Or you'll be knockin' at the poor house door

Now momma don't you worry, momma don't you fret
You've raised him right, you've done your best
Some are born to wander, while others stay home
Momma you've raised a rollin' stone

Chorus
As sure as the green grass grows
As the mighty Mississippi rolls
He's got the rhythm, born with the soul
Hell bent, rarin' to go
All fired up on that rock 'n' roll

Verse
He cut his teeth on 'Johnny B. Goode'
'Mystery Train', 'Crossroads', and 'Knock on Wood'
Word got around he had 'em down cold
Built a reputation note by note

Soon came a day he bought an old Cadillac
Left town and didn't look back
Rollin' on three black retreads and a whitewall tire
Hell bound to set the world on fire

Chorus

Bridge
California calling
Across the great divide
Said his farewells
Headed west
2,000 miles to ride

Verse
He really took to those honkytonk nights
Playin' packed houses, he was doin' alright
Pushin' the limit, Devil may care
Rock 'n' roll bound to get somewhere

Chorus
